Reconstructing Hope with AI

Please join us in celebrating AI-powered Reconstruction of Destroyed Buildings’ induction onto the Garage Wall of Fame.

In the wake of destruction, a hacking team in the Microsoft Garage developed a groundbreaking solution to help rebuild what was lost.

The idea came during Microsoft’s Global Hackathon 2023, driven by the urgent need for better reconstruction solutions. The team made remarkable technical breakthroughs, blending AI into command-and-control software and boosting reconstruction efforts.

The Hackathon project revealed significant challenges in reconstruction response and opened new ways to use emerging technologies for preconstruction optimization, helping planners make smarter, faster decisions about what to rebuild and how. Today, the project is still evolving within Microsoft, exploring new opportunities for diverse use cases, such as the preservation of historical assets and city planning, in an immersive environment.
